How to capture therapy minutes on a Significant Change MDS:

If your Significant Change of Condition occurs outside of the timeframe for a PPS assessment and you want to capture therapy minutes; you can code the MDS a Sig Change and an OMRA.

Page 2-39, of the RAI Manual, Combining Assessments, states: Currently there is no way to code that a Significant Change in Status Assessment (SCSA) performed outside the assessment window is a Medicare assessment. Until this problem can be corrected, code AA8a=3 to show the SCSA and AA8b=8 to indicate that the record is a Medicare assessment. This procedure is an exception to the rule that OMRAs are performed only to show discontinuation of therapy for residents in a RUG-III Rehabilitation Classification.
