Psychology Services at
Arizona State Hospital has nine full time psychologists who provide a full
array of psychological services to the patients. All Psychology staff have
extensive experience in working with serious mental illness.
Psychologists are responsible for the overall quality of the treatment plans
and work closely with the patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary
treatment team to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
They conduct psychological evaluations using many different tests and
assessment instruments. Psychological evaluations are typically done to help
the treatment team design the most effective treatment for the patient and to
deal with specific problem behaviors. Psychologists provide individual and
group psychotherapy services to focus on issues identified in the treatment
plan.
Psychology Services provides education and training to community agencies,
hospital support groups, hospital staff, and interns and students. Students
and interns from both local and nation-wide graduate programs receive training
from the Pre-Doctoral Internship Training Program, which is accredited by the
American Psychological Association.
