Drug Lists and Drug Profiles

The drug lists previously included as Exhibits 1, 2, and 3 to A.A.C. R9-25-503 were repealed effective January 6, 2007.

A new Table 1 in R9-25-503 now includes the list of agents that different levels of EMTs are authorized to administer, monitor, or assist a patient to self-administer. Table 1 was most recently amended effective January 31, 2007. The current R9-25-503, including Table 1, is available here:

The Department has also adopted, as guidance documents, a number of drug profiles for agents included in Table 1. These drug profiles were developed by the Department, in cooperation with its advisory committees, to provide guidelines for the safe and effective use of agents for maximum patient benefit. These drug profiles are intended to be used as reference documents by medical control authorities, EMS educators, and EMS providers. The drug profiles are available on the Department’s website at http://www.azdhs.gov/diro/admin_rules/guidance.htm.

The Department is aware that the use of agents evolves with time and increased knowledge. Suggestions related to Table 1 in R9-25-503 and/or drug profiles may be addressed to Dr. Bentley Bobrow, Medical Director, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System, 150 N. 18th Avenue, Suite 540, Phoenix, Arizona 85007 or bobrowb@azdhs.gov.
