Number and Percent of Cases and Deaths from Motor Vehicle Traffic Related Trauma

There were 27,831 trauma cases in 2010 and 11,487 (41.3%) were Motor Vehicle Traffic (MVT) related. The majority of MVT-related traumas were sustained by the occupants of motor vehicles, but these patients also had the lowest percent of deaths resulting from their injuries. Pedestrians injured by motor vehicles had the highest percent of deaths (9.8%), which is more than the percent of deaths for MVT-related trauma injuries for Occupants, Motorcyclists, and Pedal Cyclists combined.
