On October 6, 2005, the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council (GRRC) unanimously approved the ADHS trauma center designation rules.  ADHS has been working on drafting the rules with the State Trauma Advisory Board (STAB) and the STAB Verification/Designation Workgroup since August 2004, and GRRC’s approval signifies the accomplishment of a major milestone in Arizona’s EMS and trauma system development.

The rules provide for the designation of Level I, II, III, and IV trauma centers, and require interested owners of health care institutions to submit an application to the Bureau for the desired designation Level.  The application process for Level I, II, and III trauma center designation requires successful verification by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.  The application process for Level IV trauma center designation, based on state standards, will include an on-site survey by Bureau staff.  The rules further include as Exhibit-1 the state standards for all four Levels of trauma center designation.

Copies of the rules and the separate applications for trauma center designation (initial) and for provisional trauma center designation can be downloaded directly by clicking the links below or via email by contacting Donna Meyer at meyerd@azdhs.gov or (602) 364-3158.
