We are pleased to present findings from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission’s 2002 Arizona Youth Survey. This data presents an unparalleled opportunity for community coalitions, schools, government, youth programs, faith organizations, juvenile justice, law enforcement and behavioral health providers to focus their efforts on the research-based conditions that influence youth substance abuse, delinquency, violence, teen pregnancy and school success.
The Arizona Department of Health Services applauds the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission for their leadership in this project. To the other project partners including the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families and the Student Services Division of the Arizona Department of Education we wish to also express our thanks.
We trust that you will find the data from the Arizona Youth Survey useful to your planning and program development efforts. The Arizona Youth Survey is a planning tool that can be used to stimulate discussion about needs of youth in any area of the state. Discussion of needs followed by a critical assessment of existing resources may be used to perform community planning, program improvement, re-structuring, and/or acquisition of additional resources and other efforts that will help community groups meet local needs. It is our hope that this information is used as we continue to work together to build a healthy Arizona.
This survey will be repeated in 2004. Every participating school will receive an individualized report with their own data providing useful information for program planning. The survey is offered at no cost to participating schools on a first come first served basis to the extent limited funds allow. For more information on how your school can participate in the 2004 Arizona Youth Survey contact Joy Litzenberger or Steve Ballance at the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission at (602) 364-1169.
