A convicted rapist who escaped from the Arizona Community Treatment and Protection Center (ACTPT) is now back behind bars after a multi-state manhunt. 40-year-old Jorge Murillo was captured October 23 by the US Border Patrol in Imperial County, California near the border.

"I am thankful to the numerous federal, state and local agencies that helped track down this predator," said Interim Director Will Humble. "I'd love to shake the hand of the agent who captured Murillo."

Murillo escaped the state hospital on October 17 while on a pre-trial hold for Maricopa County. He spent 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections prisons for sexual assault.

Murillo is now in the custody of the Imperial County Sheriff's Office. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is expected to take custody of Murillo to serve a 16-year sentence for rape and other crimes in L.A. County.

ADHS continues to investigate the escape. During the investigation, no one is allowed into the recreational area where Murillo was that night.
