Purpose: The purpose of the Non-Renal Transplant Medications Program is to make post-surgical, transplant related medication available to eligible patients. The goal of the program is to assist in the long-term survival of non-renal transplant recipients.

Requirements: House Bill 2422 allocated $200,000 annually (subject to availability of funds) for contracts with hospitals licensed by the Department of Health Services that perform non-renal organ transplant operations.

Eligibility: Non-renal, solid organ transplant recipients who are Arizona residents and meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Medicare enrollee with no prescription medication benefits.

  • Medicare enrollee with immunosuppressant coverage only.  Note:  Only those medications that are transplant-specific (see Covered Medications) and are not otherwise covered by Medicare are eligible for payment under this program.

  • Primary and/or secondary insurance enrollees with exhausted or insufficient prescription medication benefits.  "Exhausted benefits" are those benefits that expire after a given time period or expenditure cap.  "Insufficient" is defined as coverage that does not include the covered medications prescribed by this program.

  • Individuals without insurance who are ineligible for Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) coverage.

Individuals meeting at least one of the criteria stipulated above must also complete a financial screening. This screening will include documentation of Arizona residency and income.
