Arizona J-1 Visa Waiver Program
Each federal fiscal year, from October 1 through November 30, Arizona has 30 available slots for J-1 physicians. Primary care physicians or psychiatrists will fill at least 22 of the slots and up to 7 slots may be available for specialists providing full-time (40 hours/week) specialty services in a federally designated HPSA, MUA, or MUP.
The program will use one slot as discretionary slot and may be used for staffing emergencies. A staffing emergency means the loss of at least two physicians, unless the rural HPSA, MUA, or MUP has only one physician, within a rural HPSA, MUA, or MUP within 6 months before the date ADHS receives the request for an ADHS J-1 visa waiver recommendation. If this slot is not used by June 30, it will revert to an available position and all applications will be considered.
NOTE: A service site is limited to two approved J-1 physicians per site per year.
