National Health Service Corps
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program application cycle for FY 2014 is now open. The application cycle will close on March 20, at 7:30 pm, ET. Visit the NHSC website for all the information.
The National Health Services Corps (NHSC) recruits and places health professionals at eligible sites within federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). NHSC recruits and supports the retention of primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, dentists, dental hygienists, and mental health professionals. These providers serve in community-based systems of care in return for scholarship or loan repayment assistance.
Become a NHSC-approved site
Get assistance recruiting and retaining primary care, dental and mental health professionals by becoming a NHSC-approved site. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) provides technical assistance to health care facilities looking to become a NHSC site. Your facility may be eligible to become an NHSC-approved site if it:
- Is located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA)
- Enter the address of your facility to find out of it is located in a HPSA
- Provides primary care medical, dental, or mental and behavioral health services
- Provides services regardless of a patient's ability to pay
- Offers discounted fees to patients who qualify through a Sliding-Fee-Schedule
- Accepts patients covered by Medicare, Medicaid (AHCCCS), and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Promote the NHSC in AZ
ADHS also promotes the NHSC Ambassador Program within Arizona. NHSC Ambassadors are dedicated volunteers who help educate and inform prospective Corps members. Learn more about the ambassador's work in Arizona through the AZ State Guide.
Additional Recruitment and Retention Assistance
ADHS partners with the National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network (3RNet) to provide additional recruitment and retention support for rural and underserved areas throughout Arizona. 3RNet is a free valuable resource for healthcare facilities and providers. It provides a space for healthcare facilities to post current openings as well as a guidance and support to providers to find a position that best meets their needs.
