This is a table of the various types of Hepatitis panels available at the
State Public Health Lab. Each type of test is identified along with the
diagnosis for, tests needed and the purpose of testing.

IgM; Purpose of testing: Identify type of viral Hepatitis for diagnostic
purposes.
Type of Test: Screen;
Diagnosis for: Prenatal; Tests needed: HBsAg; Purpose of testing: Identify
HBsAg positive mothers and treat newborns with Hepatitis B vaccine.
Type of Test: Screen;
Diagnosis for: Household Contact; Tests needed: Total Anti-core, HBsAg;
Purpose of Testing: Determines if there has been infections with HBV at some
time
Type of Test: Screen;
Diagnosis for: Refugee; Tests needed: HBsAg, Anti-Core IgM, Total Anti-Core;
Purpose of Testing: Identify HBV-infected individuals and assess need for
prophylaxis for those exposed.
Type of Test: Screen;
Diagnosis for: Pre-Vaccine; Tests needed: Total Anti-Core; Prupose of Testing:
Identify exposure to HBV at some time.
Type of Test: Monitor;
Diagnosis for: Infant Follow-up; Tests needed: HBsAg, Anti-Core IgM; Purpose
of Testing: To monitor therapy.
Type of Test: Monitor;
Diagnosis for: Post-Vaccine; Tests needed: Anti-HBs; Purpose of Testing:
Determine antibody level and evaluate need for revaccination. |
