Identify type of viral Hepatitis for diagnostic purposes.
Screen Prenatal HBsAg Identify HBsAg positive mothers and treat newborns with Hepatitis B vaccine.
  Household Contact Total Anti-Core HBsAg Determines if there has been infection with HBV at some time.
  Refugee HBsAg,
Anti-Core IgM,
Total Anti-Core
Identify HBV-infected individuals and assess need for prophylaxis for those exposed.
  Pre-Vaccine Total Anti-Core Identify exposure to HBV at some time.
Monitor Infant Follow-up HBsAg,
Anti-Core IgM
To monitor therapy
  Post-Vaccine Anti-HBS Determine antibody level and evaluate need for revaccination.
