A fourth grade student from Scottsdale, Arizona, is the winner of a sun safety awareness poster contest sponsored by the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the SHADE Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Shonda and Curt Schilling.

Shannen Pearce, who attends Desert Canyon Elementary School in Scottsdale, won tickets to the Diamondbacks’ May 10 home game. Her teacher, Ms. Karen Braccio, will also received tickets to the game

About 2,000 student artists submitted entries to the contest, designed to promote sun safety awareness among Arizona school children.

The winner and 50 semi-finalists were selected by a group of Diamondbacks’ players’ wives, including Erica Mantei, wife of pitcher Matt Mantei. The Manteis are affiliated with the SHADE Foundation, the Curt and Shonda Schilling Foundation of America, which is dedicated to educating children and adults about preventing skin cancer.

Matt Mantei will autograph all of the semifinalists’ entries, and all of the young artists who entered the contest will receive personalized certificates of participation signed by Matt Mantei and Shonda Schilling.
