Christina Mesiti, Arcadia High School 12th grader, received a Year Long Family Pass to the Phoenix Zoo today for winning first place in the Arizona Department of Health Services’ West Nile virus poster contest.
The Department’s Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Disease staff announced the contest in September. They targeted children up to age 17 to educate them on ways to prevent infections. The office received 185 posters from across the state and chose the winner two weeks ago.
Craig Levy of the Arizona Department of Health Services and Johnny Diloné from Maricopa County Environmental Services presented the award to Mesiti, and provided pizza, drinks and a cake with the winning poster imprinted on it to her entire class. Chelsea Moody, another poster finalist, is in the same class and also was recognized.
“They showed a lot of creativity and artistic talent. All of the kids did a great job. I’d like to have given all of the participants an award,” Levy said.
