The Arizona
Department of Health Services encourages women of Arizona to take time to focus
on their health during National Women’s Health Week May 9-13, 2005.
Women can kick-off the week by participating in National Women’s Check-up Day
on Monday, May 9. On this day, community health centers, hospitals and other
health providers in several Arizona cities will offer free preventive health
services to women. A list of free screening providers is available at http://azdhs.gov/whweek/index.htm

Other Women’s Health Week activities in Arizona include a “Breakfast in the
Park and Enhancing Women’s Health” hosted by The Discovery Institute at ASU
Research Park on Wednesday, May 4 from 7:30 a.m. to noon, a Health Expo to be
held at the Governor’s Executive Tower Lobby on Wednesday, May 11, 10:00 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m., and a brown bag lunch series hosted by the Governor’s Office for
Children, Youth and Families.
The brown bag series will be
held each day at the Arizona State Capitol, Governor’s Executive Tower 2nd
Floor Conference Room and at the State Health Department, 150 N. 18th Ave.,
Phoenix, Room 345, respectively, and will focus on the following topics:
Monday – Mental Health
(11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m., State Capitol, Governor’s Executive Tower, 2nd
Floor Conference Room)
Tuesday – Cardiovascular Disease (11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m., State Capitol,
Governor’s Executive Tower, 2nd Floor Conference Room)
Wednesday – Health Expo (10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., State Capitol, Governor’s
Executive Tower Lobby)
Thursday – Cancer (11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m., State Capitol, Governor’s
Executive Tower, 2nd Floor Conference Room)
Friday – Osteoporosis and Oral Health (Noon –1:00 p.m. Osteoporosis, 1:00
p.m.–2:00 p.m. Oral Health, State Health Department, 150 N. 18th Ave., Room
345)
“Even if you pick just one issue you’ve been procrastinating about, whether
it’s getting more exercise, taking your folic acid, or going in for a
mammogram, you can make a significant difference in improving your health —
and this is just the week to get started,” said Arizona Department of Health
Services Assistant Director Rose Conner.
