The Arizona State Hospital has earned a clean bill of health from the federal Medicare agency, Arizona Department of Health Services Director Catherine Eden announced today.
“This is positive and welcome news for the Arizona State Hospital. I congratulate Director Catherine Eden and the staff at the hospital for this achievement,” Governor Janet Napolitano said. “Now it's important to keep the forward momentum.”
Director Eden added, “Today’s announcement reaffirms our dedication to making continual improvements at the Arizona State Hospital. The hospital has been and will continue to be an institution of quality.”
The Arizona State Hospital passed an inspection conducted last week, leading to a recommendation to restore the hospital’s standing with the federal agency.
“We wish to inform you that as a result of the March 23, 2005 follow-up survey, the facility was found in compliance with all Medicare Conditions of Participation,” Deborah Romero, acting manager of Hospital and Community Care Operations for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, wrote in a letter dated today.
“It is a great event that the Arizona State Hospital made significant improvements and has won its continued certification,” Eden said. “I want to congratulate acting superintendent Dr. Jerry Dennis and all members of the hospital staff for their hard work and dedication.”
A new superintendent will begin at the hospital April 18. John C. Cooper, who is currently hospital administrator at the New Mexico Department of Health’s New Mexico Rehabilitation Center, has more than two decades of experience in behavioral health.
