A sixth-grade student from Scottsdale, Arizona, is the winner of a sun safety awareness poster contest sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona Department of Health Services and the SHADE Foundation.
Joy-Ann Pearce, who attends Copper Ridge Middle School, will receive an on-field award and have her picture taken with a Diamondbacks player. Joy-Ann won tickets to attend the game with her family, as did her teacher, Ms. Karen Anderson.
More than 2,000 student artists submitted entries to the contest, designed to promote sun safety awareness among Arizona school children.
The winner and 50 semi-finalists were selected by a group of Diamondbacks’ players’ wives, including Jillian Kata.
Matt Kata, second baseman for the Diamondbacks, autographed all of the semifinalists’ entries, and all of the young artists who entered the contest will receive certificates of participation signed by Matt and Jillian Kata.
