(PHOENIX) November 8, 2006 –
Arizona smokers today are facing a harsh new reality: It’s going to cost
more to light up and it’s going to be tougher than ever to puff those
cigarettes in public.
With the passage of Propositions 201 and 203, smokers have strong new
incentives to quit the habit. And the Arizona Department of Health Services’
anti-tobacco program has the tools to help.
“This year more than ever, I urge smokers to join the Great American
Smokeout®,” said Health Director Susan Gerard, referring to the American
Cancer Society’s annual smokeout event challenge on Nov. 16. “Regardless of
your motivation, this is a golden opportunity for you to join a powerful
local and national movement for positive change.”
The health department’s Tobacco Education and Prevention Program (TEPP)
provides statewide programs to assist in smoking cessation. The state’s
anti-tobacco program works with local Arizona communities to help people to
succeed at becoming tobacco free.
