The once mighty Michael - who topped lists of most popular boy baby names in Arizona for decades - has fallen again, dropping to No. 9 in 2007 from No. 6 in 2006.
Angel is the new ruler of boys’ names in Arizona, topping the list in 2007 for the third year in a row. Jose and Daniel followed close behind at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively.
For girls, Isabella is the new queen of popular names, unseating Mia for top spot in Arizona. Emily and Mia were Nos. 2 and 3.
The Arizona Department of Health Services’ list of top Arizona baby names for 2007 is compiled from birth certificates filed with the Department’s Office of Vital Records.
Michael was the most popular boy’s name in 1976, 1986 and 1996, but has continued to fall in the 21st Century.
Isabella shifted places with Mia, who was No. 1 last year.
The girls’ name “Nevaeh” – which is heaven spelled backwards – emerged in the Top 20 for the first time this year.
