The Arizona Department of Health Services has extended ValueOptions’ contract by two months to provide public mental health services in Maricopa County.

The company’s current contract is scheduled to expire June 30, and the extension is designed to ensure a smooth transition of members to a new contract.

“This is best for the people we serve so there is no disruption in service,” said Department of Health Services Director Susan Gerard. “We are dedicated to ensuring people with mental illness in Maricopa County continue to receive services without interruption.”

An independent evaluation team is reviewing proposals from bidders to provide public mental health services in Maricopa County beginning Sept. 1. ValueOptions has been providing behavioral health services in Maricopa County since 1998.

The new contract for a Maricopa County Regional Behavioral Health Authority will be announced in mid-May.

It will run three years, with an estimated valued of $500 million annually, with an option to extend the contract for two more years based on performance.
