Due to the recent recall by the Fisher-Price toy company, the Arizona Department of Health Services advises consumers to be on alert for the affected products and potential symptoms.

On August 2, a nation-wide recall was issued for certain Fisher-Price licensed character toys due to a possible lead poisoning hazard from surface paints. The recall includes almost one million units of over 80 types of figures and toys sold at retail stores nationwide from May 2007 through August 2007. Consumers are advised to be on alert for updated information regarding this recall and to remove the recalled toys away from children and contact Fisher-Price at 1-800-916-4498 to arrange for replacement.

Lead poisoning can cause serious health problems. Children under the age of six are particularly vulnerable and even relatively low levels of lead in blood can cause learning disabilities and behavioral problems. If you are concerned about exposure to lead, a blood test is needed to determine if you or your children are lead poisoned.
