The
Arizona Department of Health Services Arthritis Program was
established in 1999 through a cooperative agreement with the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop a public health
approach to arthritis.
The
ADHS Arthritis Program has been working with the Arizona Arthritis
Partnership (AAP) to develop a statewide strategic plan to reduce
the burden of arthritis for all Arizonans. Partnership members

Arthritis
affects almost one of every six Arizonans. Contrary to popular
belief, it does not affect only older individuals, it is not
inevitable, and there are a lot of options for management.
The
Arthritis Program goals are to: |
- Increase
awareness of the signs, symptoms, and treatment of arthritis.
- Increase
self-management of arthritis.
- Increase
the number and quality of resources for people with arthritis.
- Reduce
pain and disability for people with arthritis.
- Increase
knowledge among members of the medical community of signs, symptoms,
treatment, and management of arthritis.
