In the past two decades, 222 cases of active tuberculosis infection (TB) have been reported among Arizona’s refugee populations. Most of these cases were caused by latent tuberculosis infections that became active after years or even decades of lying dormant. For this reason it is important that those people discovered to have a latent TB infection complete an entire course of medication. Approximately 18% of all refugees resettled in Arizona arrive with a latent TB infection.
