FDA Tobacco Compliance Program
The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act) became effective on June 22, 2009. The Tobacco Control Act gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products to protect public health.
As a result, the FDA contracted with several states, including Arizona, to conduct Undercover Buy and Advertising and Labeling inspections at tobacco retailers throughout the State. The purpose of the inspections is to monitor compliance with regulations of the Tobacco Control Act, including the flavored cigarette ban, age and access limitations, and promotion and advertising restrictions.
