Physical Activity Information & Resources
Physical activity is "crosscutting." This simply means that being physically active is an essential part of healthy aging because it affects almost every aspect of our health and it modifies how the “aging process” effects our physical function.

This critical benefit & impact on health & quality of life is a reason the HACN has a focus on physical activity (PA) and exercise. The HACN and web site will be a valuable source for those planning and conducting PA programs for older adults. On the Professional Resources page you will find landmark reports, data sources & tools such as evidence-based programs. You will want to check back often and tell your colleagues that the HACN and web site is an important way for finding information and access to experts as you plan & implement physical activity programming.

HACN Information:

The HACN has two active groups which meet regularly via the web and phone:

The Active Adults Workgroup is part of the Active Arizona for Life Coalition and networks to increase opportunities for older Arizonans to be physically active.

The Active Options Workgroup works in partnership with the National Council on Aging networking to launch the Active Options Web Tool for Arizona. The Active Options Web Tool is a searchable data base that allows older Arizonans to find PA programs and program information by zip code. This program creates synergy between PA programs and public health providing a mechanism for PA programs to market to a target audience, Older Arizonans to find PA programs, tailored for them, near their homes, and the Arizona Department of Health Services to have an active database of PA programs around our state.

If you are a PA Program and would like to have your program entered into the Active Options Web Tool email: Ramona Rusinak, RN, PhD

If you would like to participate in the Active Options Workgroup email: Ramona Rusinak, RN, PhD. If you would like to join the HACN please complete the HACN Registry Application.
