Prevention
The Prevention Program is responsible for funding a wide variety of general and targeted prevention programs throughout Arizona.
All fifteen counties are supported in providing universal access to free HIV
counseling and testing services as well as health education activities.
The Prevention Program advises and assists community based organizations in
implementing very specific, science based HIV prevention to higher risk
populations.
In Arizona, persons who are living with HIV, men who have sex with men (MSM)
and injection drug users (IDUs) are the populations who receive the majority of
targeted HIV prevention activity.
The Office of HIV/AIDS Prevention Program administers more than 3.1 million in
federal prevention monies for the state of Arizona. There are currently
more than 20 prevention contracts which the program oversees.
In addition to the above described programs, the prevention program provides
evaluation, program support, technical assistance, capacity building and
training support to a large number of both funded and non-funded agencies
throughout the state.
Care and Services
The Care and Services Program is funded under the Ryan White CARE Act Title II to improve the quality, availability, and organization of health care and support services to people living with HIV disease who would otherwise be unable to access these services. Care and Services also facilitates development and implementation of state and local policies relating to HIV/AIDS care and treatment.
The largest portion of the Care and Services Program is The Arizona AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). ADAP is a statewide program that provides ADAP-eligible individuals access to prescription drugs used to treat HIV disease who do not have adequate private or public health insurance. The Arizona ADAP has been running continuously since 1988.
Epidemiology
The Epidemiology Program is responsible for reporting cases of HIV and AIDS, training county Communicable Disease Investigators, and compiling statistical information in useable formats for county health departments, regional planning groups, community-based programs and other agencies.
This program is required to comply with strict confidentiality and security requirements in an effort to protect privacy. |
