| Capacity Building contains a multi-layered approach when applying strategies for the State of Arizona. The Office of HIV/AIDS targets primarily communities of color when seeking to build capacity, but all of Arizona communities are considered when addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS on their families, friends, associates and communal infrastructure.
Capacity Building focuses on six areas:
- The assessment of the internal capacity of the Department to meet the needs of Arizona’s communities of color, then responding to those needs in appropriate, effective methods.
- The assessment of the organizational capacities of non-governmental organizations to offer prevention programs, then responding to those needs in appropriate, effective methods.
- Offering trainings facilitated by both local and national professionals to possible new prevention partners.
- The creation of a social marketing strategy targeting marginalized communities most at risk for HIV/AIDS.
- Statewide Resource Center and Information Disbursement.
- Increased Statewide Capacity to provide prevention interventions through increased collaborative partnerships using coalition building, community events, town halls, enhanced media coverage.
