The number of people affected by Arizona's extreme heat is on the rise over the past couple of decades. The need for a program focusing on the effects of heat is evident. The Extreme Weather and Public Health Climate-Ready Initiative was created to develop capacity and adaptations to reduce the health effects of extreme heat on Arizonans, develop climate change programs, and to increase knowledge of healthy responses to excessive heat situations.
