Registration by Examination
The sanitarian’s examination consists of a total of 250 multiple-choice questions (25 of which are unscored/unidentified pilot questions) developed by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). The exam is split into two parts of 125 questions each. Candidates are given a total of four (4) hours to complete the entire exam or two (2) hours for each part with a short 15-minute break in between. The examination covers the following subject matter:
- Conducting Facility Inspections
- Conducting System Inspections
- Conducting Investigations
- Ensuring Compliance
- Promoting Environmental Public Health Awareness
- Responding to Emergencies
A score of at least 70% is required to pass the examination.
