The STD Control Program is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and preventing the sexually transmitted diseases (genital chlamydia infection, syphilis, gonorrhea, and genital herpes) through education of those at risk; detection of asymptomatically infected individuals and of persons who are symptomatic but unlikely to seek diagnostic and treatment services; effective diagnosis and treatment of those who are infected; evaluation, treatment, and counseling of sex partners of persons who have a sexually transmitted disease.
