| Active AZ for Life (A Healthy AZ 2010 work group) – is a statewide multidisciplinary team of nearly 70 participants that began in 2000. Participants meet on a quarterly basis to address the risk factor of physical inactivity.
Our vision:
To have healthy, physically active residents of Arizona.
Our mission:
To promote physical activity in a variety of strategies and programs such as healthy lifestyles, recreation, exercise and active transportation in order to reduce the risk of chronic disease and preventable death attributed to physical inactivity.
Our overriding state-specific objectives, per the Healthy AZ 2010 document are:
- Increase the proportion of children who participate in cumulative intermittent physical activity for 60 minutes per day.
- Increase the proportion of adolescents who engage in either moderate of vigorous physical activity. (Adolescents – ages 2-18, grades 7-12)
- Increase the proportion of adults who engage regularly, preferably daily, in moderate or vigorous physical activity.
- Reduce the proportion of adults who engage in no physical activity.
We have four specific sub-committees with goals focusing on the following four areas:

Goal #1 – Increase the awareness of the importance of physical activity, available resources, and how to get involved in enjoyable, lifelong physical activity.
Goal #2 – Provide and promote the use of community facilities and safe places to foster physical activity among adults and older adults.
Goal #3 – Provide and promote programs that focus on moderate activity for people who have not been physically active. Include focus on lifestyle activity such as walking, gardening and housework.
