Quit Tobacco

More than 50 million Americans smoke regularly, and 70 percent of those men, women, and children want to quit.  Quitting is not easy, best studies show that tobacco users are two to three time more likely to quit successfully if they receive help, especially skills training, counseling, and medication, such as nicotine replacement patches and gum.

Helping people quit using tobacco is a major emphasis of the state program and involves a variety of activities.  These include operating a FREE adult telephone quit line 1-800-556-6222 supported by a statewide media campaign and the Web site www.ashline.org, funding local quitting programs, working with insurers to include help with quitting in their coverage, and training doctors and other healthcare providers to help their patients quit.
