Numbers in parenthesis are the number of suicides for Arizona residents.

The 1995 Arizona suicide death rate was 78 percent higher than the national rate, and 86 percent higher than the year 2000 national health objective of 10.5 suicides/100,000 population.

During 1995 a total of 858 Arizona residents committed suicide, an increase of 321 or 59 percent from the 1985 figure of 537. The Arizona age-adjusted suicide mortality rate decreased by 2.5 percent from 20.0 suicides/100,000 persons in 1994 to 19.5/100,000 in 1995, but was the second highest rate of the eleven-year period 1985-1995.
